A large 19th century giltwood overmantel

A fine 19th century Regency giltwood overmantel mirror, retaining its original gilded surface and original large scale mirror plate, the carved frame with detailed stylised acanthus, with column borders and foliate banding

English circa 1825

The large single plate is a rarity in mirrors of this size. Because of the difficulty in producing glass sheets large enough to mercury mirror, most frames were divided by small mouldings to accept smaller mirrors.
